The Unborn

[EN]Julia Gallo [Rio de Janeiro, 1997] is a visual artist based in São Paulo, Brazil. Drawing is the central poetic instrument that the artist uses to address questions related to the contemporary body – whether as charcoal on canvas, scissors cutting paper, or even translucent shadows projected into the space. Her work deals with an invented and psychological anatomy.

Il disegno è lo strumento poetico centrale che l'artista utilizza per affrontare le questioni relative al corpo contemporaneo, sia come carboncino su tela, forbici che tagliano la carta o persino ombre traslucide proiettate nello spazio. Il suo lavoro si occupa di un'anatomia inventata e psicologica.

[EN]»The Unborn« is a shadow installation on the outside area of FABRICA. It is a series of three paintings on translucent materials – a spotlight has been placed behind them, projecting expanded images of the paintings and modifying their pictorial qualities. Both the physical object and its enlarged double are visible in the exhibition space, creating a seductive yet disturbing atmosphere.

[IT]»The Unborn« è un’installazione ambientata nell’area esterna di FABRICA. Consiste in una serie di tre dipinti realizzati su un supporto traslucido: dietro di essi è stato posizionato un riflettore che proietta immagini ingrandite dei dipinti e ne modifica le caratteristiche pittoriche. Sia l’oggetto fisico che la sua proiezione sono visibili nello spazio espositivo, creando un’atmosfera seducente e allo stesso tempo inquietante.
