[EN]Jelle Peter van Bouwhorst [he/him] (1997, Netherlands) is a graphic designer based in Rotterdam, working on the intersection of art and design. Holding a strong emphasis on experimentation, research, and critical thinking on context, processes and details on all forces shaping the discipline of today. He studied typography at the Universidad de Monterrey in Mexico, New Media and Visual Communication at (AAAD) Umprum in Prague, Czech Republic and received his BA in Graphic Design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. His practice focuses on organising and working in a collaborative manner with other artists, architects, curators, publishers, designers and friends. He runs Vide Books, a new [art]bookshop for contemporary culture, graphic design and self-organisation in Rotterdam.

[EN]»STORTO« is a presentation of ephemeral installations from neglected or else partially stored materials. These hybrid arrangements demonstrate particular systems that hold our buildings together or present a certain function or logic, showing our isolation from those particular systems, their contexts, and production processes. In this way, the work renders our surroundings denser, new relationships emerge where the human and inhuman coexist.

The title »STORTO« meaning »crooked, not straight or level« (translated from Italian) refers to the process of making: getting to the point of the dialog between two or more things.

[IT]»STORTO« è una presentazione di installazioni effimere composte da materiali abbandonati o archiviati. Si tratta di combinazioni ibride che richiamano la funzione e la logica dei sistemi specifici che tengono insieme le strutture che ci circondano. La loro presenza ci invita a riflettere sulla tendenza ad auto-isolarci da questi sistemi, dai loro processi di produzione e dai contesti in cui sono inseriti. Così lo spazio attorno a noi si addensa, emergono nuove relazioni, che presentano un mondo in cui l’umano e inumano coesistono.
