Phill Niblock, American minimalist composer and filmmaker, and Katherine Liberovskaya, Canadian video artist, will be at Fabrica for a 3-day workshop, screenings and a closing public concert which will take place on Thursday 17th November at 7pm CET.
Phill Niblock is one of the most important multimedia artists of his generation. His fifty-year career spans minimalist and experimental music, film and photography. Since 1985, he has served as director of Experimental Intermedia, a foundation for avant-garde music based in New York with a branch in Ghent. Known for his thick, loud drones of music, Niblock’s signature sound is filled with microtones of instrumental timbres that generate many other tones in the performance space. In 2013, his diverse artistic career was the subject of a retrospective realised in partnership between Circuit (Contemporary Art Centre Lausanne) and Musée de l’Elysée. The following year Niblock was honoured with the prestigious Foundation for Contemporary Arts John Cage Award.
Katherine Liberovskaya is a Canadian video artist. Liberovskaya is known primarily for her experimental video works. She received her PhD from the Université du Québec in Montreal. Her work is included in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada and Videographe, Montreal.
This event is part of the “Otherworlding” Fabrica residency program curated by Carlos Casas.
