On Thursday 14 September at 7pm Laura Tripaldi, independent writer and researcher, will officially open “Co-ecologies”, the Autumn/Winter session of Fabrica’s artistic residency program with a lecture titled “Soft future. Encounters with the intelligence of materials”.
The concept of “softness” is used in materials science to refer to deformable and flexible bodies, capable of adapting to their environment and evolving over time. These materials challenge our mechanical view of technologies and invite us to recognize non-human forms of sensitivity and intelligence. What are the technological, philosophical, cultural and political consequences of imagining a “softer” world? How can the concept of softness guide us, in theory and in practice, towards the construction of new future co-ecologies?
Laura Tripaldi works at the intersection of science, technology and contemporary humanities. She has held courses, seminars and workshops in many prestigious academic and cultural institutions in Italy and around the world. Her book “Parallel Minds. Discovering the intelligence of materials”, published by effequ in 2020, has been translated into English by Urbanomic and into Spanish by Caja Negra. Her latest essay “Gender Tech. How technology controls women’s bodies” came out in 2023 for Laterza.
