Monday November 20 at 7pm CET, Fabrica hosts the american visual artist Christina Seely, whose research-based practice is based on our increasingly tenuous relationship to the natural world.
Christina Seely’s work is centered at the intersection of art, science, spirituality and design. Her works encourage new ways of sensing the self and facing complex emotions related to our times inside the realities of climate collapse.
During her lecture, the artist will talk about her more than a decade of in-field experience working alongside climate scientists in the far reaches of the planet, like in arctic and tropical ecosystems in order to draw out empathic understandings of these changing regions.
She has a broad national and international exhibition record and is featured in many public and private collections. Her exhibitions “Next of Kin: Seeing Extinction Through An Artist’s Lens” opened at the Harvard Museum of Natural History in 2017 and her solo exhibition “Dissonance and Disturbance” debuted in 2021 at the Anchorage Museum in Alaska.
She received her MFA in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design, and completed a self-designed Master’s in Theological Studies at Harvard Divinity School in 2023 considering art as a space of spiritual and existential holding in conversation with (Western) science as a way to build more effective climate crisis communication.
She is currently represented by Euqinom Gallery in San Francisco, CA and is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow.
Christina Seely’s talk is part of the “Co-ecologies” residency program curated by Carlos Casas. She will guide the young Fabrica residents in a masterclass titled “Fragile Energetics”, focused on the consciousness at this moment of great eco-urgency.
